Welcome!
Interested in joining our community of Gay travellers in creating the world’s best
information source for independent Gay Travel? Great! 2002 was our launch year and
we achieved our goal of 30 city guides nine months later. Something we could never
have done without the help of so many travellers like you who share our passion.
What's involved?
It only takes a couple of hours using our standard templates to create a city guide
for a city you know and love. You need to apply here on line, we then provide you
with password access, and then it's just a case of filling in the individual
sections, either online or, at your leisure, by “cutting and pasting” into the
online forms from a pre-written document. You can update and change the information
at any time using your username and password. When it is all ready to go, just hit
the “Request Activation” link. We then review and, hey presto, it's live on the
system. After that, all we require is that you spend a few minutes (every 4 months)
keeping the information as up-to-date as possible. Not much, as you will know most
of the information requested already. We don't aim to list everything Gay about a
city, rather we strive to lead travellers to the best your city has to offer.
So “What’s in it for me?” I hear you cry.
It's not our intention to mislead you, but in the beginning the rewards will be
personal, such as interest in travel, desire to promote your town or city and to
make contact with other travel crazy Gay guys and girls around the world. Coupled,
we hope, with a belief that this site will make a difference for you and for others
who follow. As we grow into a major Gay travel resource (far better than the hard
copy guides available), the benefits to you of being the officially named writer
for the city in question will become far more tangible. There will only be one GTG
writer per city, and once your city guide is completed we will send you some
business cards and details of how to go about seeking benefits both in your home
city and also when you travel to a new destination with the desire to write for that
city. (Last year Craig and I went on holiday to Cape Town to write that citys
guide and were fêted through out our stay by hotels and tour operators who wanted to be
written up in the guide).
One of GTG’s core philosophies is that we will list the best, bars, clubs,
saunas and accommodation in town, regardless of whether they support the site
financially. We will be putting in place a donation feature in 2003 and will seek
to cover some of our costs through sponsorship links, and providing travel
editorials to Gay rags in return for publicity. As we grow it will become very
attractive for businesses like Gay accommodation, tours, airlines etc to make a
contribution to the site for inclusion and feature write-ups.
These things will take time and effort, but our dream is certainly to help
Gay travellers / writers gain benefits, such as cheaper travel, travel
“educationals” (where Gay businesses invite you to stay at their hotel in order
for you to write a review for the guide), and entry into the venues that support
the guide. We will work hard to procure and pass these benefits on to you, the
city writers.
Still keen? Great!!
